According to current buzz in the film industry, the fourth installment of the incredibly funny series, The Naked Gun, will not be screened in theaters, and will remain a Direct to DVD release only.
I find that this is a sad ending to a great comedic series featuring Leslie Nielson, star of other comedy franchises, notably the Airplane series. At least Paramount has green-lighted the project and has allowed work on a sequel to continue, even under the condition it will be published. Perhaps if fans make enough noise, a theater version *could* surface, but that’s unlikely.
The movie is a part of Paramount’s new direct-to-video initiative called Paramount Famous Prods. We’ll see how this turns out, since many of the planned projects are only tied in name and not in actors/staff.
