Fright-Rags releasing Tarman (Return of the Living Dead) collector’s mask set and more
Limited edition masks, posters and shirts licensed by William Stout
    Pre-orders available July 11th – July 15th

Fright-Rags is bringing Tarman – the iconic zombie from 1985’s The Return of the Living Dead – back from the grave… and he’s ready to party! The horror shirt specialists have teamed with Tarman creator and acclaimed artist William Stout for a line of limited edition merchandise featuring one of cinema’s most beloved monsters.

Perhaps its most unique offering yet, Fright-Rags has produced a Tarman mask and shirt box set. Limited to 500 pieces, the set is inspired by the Ben Cooper and Collegeville Halloween costumes of yore. Unlike the paper-thin masks from your childhood, these modernized versions are crafted from high-density plastic. Each one is handmade and hand painted by master artist Monte Ward. Also included is a two-sided Tarman shirt designed by William Stout. They come packaged in a collector’s box.

In addition to the box set, Fright-Rags is also offering an 18×24 screen printed poster of Stout’s design. They are limited to only 200, and each one is hand numbered. Last but certainly not least is a new Tarman shirt created by Justin Osbourn. This nostalgic design will be available on unisex T-shirts, girls shirts, hoodies and 3/4 sleeve baseball tees.

These items will be available exclusively on Fright-Rags.com for four days only. Pre-orders begin on Thursday, July 11th at 10 am EST and will end on Monday, July 15th promptly at 10 am EST. Due to the limited quantities, the box set and poster may sell out early. Act fast, because like a good brain, these will be devoured quickly!

  • Pre-orders launch for Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th Extensive documentary to be released on August 27th

crystal-lake-memoriesPanic Productions and Hutson Ranch Media have launched pre-orders for Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th on its official website. The documentary, inspired by Peter M. Bracke’s bestselling book of the same name, promises to be the definitive retrospective on the long-running Friday the 13th franchise.

The three-disc Blu-ray/DVD combo pack showcases the extensive feature, which runs approximately 420 minutes. When purchased through the website, buyers will also receive a bonus DVD with nearly 4 hours of extended interview material. The film will be officially released on August 27, 2013 via 1428 Films with a list price of $29.95.

Corey Feldman (star of Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter) narrates Crystal Lake Memories, which features interviews with approximately 150 cast and crew members from all twelve Friday the 13th films and the syndicated television series, many of whom have never before appeared in on-camera interviews. Interview subjects include Kane Hodder, Robert Englund, Tom Savini, Danielle Panabaker, Sean S. Cunningham, Derek Mears, Betsy Palmer, Wes Craven, Robert Shaye, Alice Cooper and many more. A full list of the cast can be found here.

Crystal Lake Memories is written and directed by Daniel Farrands and produced by Thommy Hutson, who previously teamed up for the award-winning Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy. “As lifelong fans, we couldn’t let 2013 pass us by without giving Jason his due,” explains Farrands. “I hope that Crystal Lake Memories will serve as a befitting tribute to one of this generation’s most iconic bogeymen.”

“We’re thrilled that we are able to bring all the incredible stories from the cast and crew to life, showcasing why the Friday the 13th franchise is still going strong decades later,” adds Hutson. “It’s a testament to the blood, sweat and tears that went into making summer camp, and eventually a hockey mask, both terrifying and fun.”

In the 33 years since the original Friday the 13th premiered in May of 1980, the slasher franchise has grown to include twelve feature films, a television series, novels, comic books, merchandise and memorabilia. In addition to staggering box office success, the films turned Jason Voorhees and his signature hockey mask into a pop culture icon. Now fans can get an in-depth look that spans the entire history from those involved.

  • SquidFlick’s Into The Dome: Under The Dome – “The Fire” Review

intoOur newest feature here at SquidFlicks is our “Into The Dome” line of entries. Each week we will debut a review of that week’s episode of the new CBS series “Under The Dome.”  I’m going into this without reading the novel, or any cliff notes of it in any form. Spoilers ahead!

So we pick up with a frantic Linda receiving the back up that she had called for at the conclusion of last weeks episode. Duke, the town’s Sheriff, is dead after touching the dome and it destroyed (or exploded rather) his pacemaker. Linda frantically tries to keep order and tells the other cops to do their duty.

We see a flashback to a prior day when Barbie was beating up Julia’s husband, saying that his boss wants his money. From this we can assume that Barbie, or Dale Barbara as we learn is his full name, was either a hired man to retain this money or does this for a living. Junior continues to torment and hold Angie hostage until she loves him like she used to. After she tries to escape he chains her ankle to the bed. He tells her how he knows all about Barbie and her. She tells him that he is right and that her and him hooked up. This obviously light s fire under Junior, who then goes after Barbie. After confronting him Barbie, and attempting to fight him, Barbie isn’t afraid to unload a few punches and promises that next time he won’t stop.

The bigger plot line of this episode was that Duke left Linda everything including his house. Big Jim, who reveals that the local town Reverend is also in on this propane scandal, tries to find the evidence that Duke had against them. The Rev is able to take Duke’s keys (or Linda’s keys with Duke’s attached) and sneak into his house to try to find this evidence. After finding and burning it, he throws the burning papers into a PLASTIC bin and watches as the house quickly becomes inflamed.

So we have a fire that’s filling a dome with toxic smoke and a town with no fire department (as they were at a nearby town’s parade). Barbie, possibly showing his military background quickly coordinates people to get their buckets, hoses, anything they can to try and keep this fire contained. Load and behold Big Jim comes riding a bulldozer to demolish the house and extinguish the fire. Linda, who saved the trapped Rev from Duke’s house, is starting to not buy into all of the talk that Big Jim is saying.

This episode really started to have people turn on one another, and showed those basic human instincts get the better of some of them. As this season continues I expect more of this type of occurrence and more radical changes in the governing system.

  • Paramount to reboot “Terminator” franchise; Standalone trilogy planned

    terminator_10

June 26, 2015. That’s when we will see more Arnie, more T-800s, more Skynet, but will we see more of the future that was portrayed in “Terminator Salvation?”

    Per press release:

Skydance Productions, Annapurna Pictures and Paramount Pictures have jointly announced they will partner on a rebooted “TERMINATOR” movie, to be released by Paramount Pictures on June 26, 2015.

The first in a stand-alone trilogy, “TERMINATOR” will be produced by Megan Ellison of Annapurna and David Ellison of Skydance. Dana Goldberg and Paul Schwake of Skydance will serve as executive producers. Laeta Kalorgridis (“Avatar,” “Shutter Island”) and Patrick Lussier (“Drive Angry”) are attached to write the screenplay.

Launched in 1984 with star Arnold Schwarzenegger as the title character, “TERMINATOR” spanned 3 subsequent films, which have earned over $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

David Ellison most recently executive produced, along with his partners at Paramount, “World War Z,” “Star Trek Into Darkness,” “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” and “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol”. A 5th installment of in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise is in active development, along with a 3rd film in the “G.I. Joe” franchise, among other films.

Megan Ellison most recently produced the Academy Award®-nominated “Zero Dark Thirty,” “The Master” and executive produced “Spring Breakers” via her Annapurna Pictures banner and has David O. Russell’s “American Hustle,” Spike Jonze’s “Her,” and Bennett Miller’s “Foxcatcher” set for release later this year.

I’m a little iffy on what the plot would be for this new trilogy that is being proposed. I was a HUGE fan of McG’s “Terminator Salvation,” and the planned sequels that continued the future we had heard about for three films. Rumors are circulating that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is being considered for the film. Further, a possible plot synopsis was released for the film: “The next chunk they have on the film is on the setting for the story. According to Examiner sources, the setting for Terminator 5 will be set before the birth of Sarah Connor and focus on her parents in the 1940s and 50s.The Examiner also reports that Schwarzenegger might not play a Terminator however could play the human hero of the film who has close connections to the Connor family however he is well antiquated with weaponry by today’s standards ultimately inspired the machines to develop a terminator in his likeness that was eventually sent to 1984 when Sarah Connor was first targeted for termination.

  • SquidFlick’s Into The Dome: Under The Dome – “Pilot” Review

    into

Our newest feature here at SquidFlicks is our “Into The Dome” line of entries. Each week we will debut a review of that week’s episode of the new CBS series “Under The Dome.”  I’m going into this without reading the novel, or any cliff notes of it in any form. Spoilers ahead!

Based off of horror author Stephen King’s book, Under The Dome is a true look into the human soul, where the only enemy lays within all of us. Going into the pilot tonight I know only the basic plot of the show/book. The town of Chester’s Mill falls out of the norm of their simple small town lives and is thrown into national and possibly international spotlight after a huge invisible dome-like structure mysteriously appears over their town.

We are quickly introduced to the set of key characters into the first five or ten minutes in. Mike Vogel plays a man, who from the first second of the show is up to no good, nicknamed “Barbie.” He seems quickly shows us he does have a heart despite shooting some poor chap in his and dumping his body in a perfectly dug hole.

The town locals will drive this show. We meet “Big Jim” (Dean Norris), who is a crooked politician and seems to be willing to leverage anything he can against anyone to get what he wants. A character I dug from the get go was “Duke,” the town’s sheriff. I hope he lives to get another pacemaker, I felt like the balance of the good vs. evil between him and “Big Jim” was instrumental in setting up a deeper plot line going forward and hope it gets that way.

Local newspaper investigator Julia is quickly into everyone’s hair, including Barbies. It seems that our solid love interest could be developing here. Julia invites Barbie to stay the night at her and her husband’s house. It seems that Julia’s hubby is having an affair, but wait! When we see a photo of her and her husband, we find out that HE is the one who Barbie was dumping off in the beginning. The plot thickens!

Now let’s move on to one of the more unique characters on the show. That’s Junior, who turns out to be Big Jim’s son. This guy is INSANE! Not only is he considering cutting himself because this girl he “loves” doesn’t say it back and he throws a hissy fit. He obviously has some issues: scouting this girl out, threatening Barbie because he was talking to her, kidnapping her, and locking her in his father oh so convenient underground bomb shelter in their backyard. He is clearly a character who does not provide either good or bad in the show. I feel he will provide that one aspect that is rarely seen and thats the nasty, cruel demons that lie within the sickest of humans. Time will tell.

All in all i feel like this was great pilot. We got a feel for the show, it’s characters, how the interact and will mesh or not mesh in the coming episodes. I definitely will be checking into the Dome for Mondays here on out!

  • Iconic actor Robert Z’Dar set to appear in slasher throwback Easter Sunday

    easter-sunday-poster
Iconic actor Robert Z’Dar set to appear in slasher throwback Easter Sunday
Currently in production in Virginia, raising funds on Kickstarter

It seems every holiday was used as the backdrop for an ’80s slasher movie – with the exception of Easter… until now!

Northgate Pictures is currently in production in Virginia on Easter Sunday. The gritty throwback to the golden era of slasher films is based on an urban legend about an axe-wielding killer who wears a rabbit costume.

Kickstarter campaign has been launched in order to raise the funds necessary to complete the film. Although the $2,000 goal has already been exceeded, the filmmakers are still accepting support in order to create the best movie possible. Supporters can donate anywhere from $1 to $275, with rewards including producer credits, roles in the film, screen-used props, artwork, memorabilia, autographs and more.

Easter Sunday is written and directed by Jeremy Morehead, an exciting new filmmaker with a lifelong passion for horror. Genre fans will recognize iconic actor Robert Z’Dar (Maniac Cop, Tango & Cash) as the film’s Sheriff Arkin and indie regular Edward X. Young (Mr. Hush, Sea of Dust) as demonologist Angus Bradley. The cast also includes Jeremy Morehead, Valerie Foos, Jon McCoy, Anne Morehead, Travis Morton and Jason Delgado.

Easter Sunday aims to return to the slasher genre’s roots by relying on tension, suspense, camerawork, character development and black humor, rather than quick editing and jump scares. “I feel like a lot of horror films being released these days don’t have the heart and soul that the genre films from the ’80s had,” explains Morehead. “Our goal is to create a film that pays homage to all the films that made us horror fanatics.”

    Synopsis:
It’s been 24 years since the deranged serial killer Douglas Fisher was executed by police on Easter night. This year, a group of hard partying teenagers not only raise some hell, but literally raise the dead! The teens accidentally conjure the spirit of Douglas Fisher… aka the bunny masked killer. These teens have until midnight on Easter to stop the evil bunny slasher, or he will tear their town and everyone in it into pieces. There will be no candy in your Easter basket, just the limbs and body parts of your family and friends.
