    OPENING NIGHT
“When the curtain rises, they die!”
    A Mindwarp Entertainment Production

Tuesday Knight, star of “A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master“, is returning to her horror roots twenty-five years later in a new short film entitled “Opening Night“.

Knight rose to fame playing Kristen Parker in the fourth installment of the famed Nightmare on Elm Street series in 1988. She has since gone on to have a successful career in television, movies, music and designing her own jewelry line.

Seems just like yesterday when I got the role as Kristen in “A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master,” Knight said. “I was running out of the New Line building so excited that I feel down their main staircase. But it didn’t matter, I was so excited to be starring in my first feature film.

I had work on television (Fame, General Hospital) but getting a feature is a big step in an actor’s life. Working on the set in some ways was a “Nightmare” in itself…getting pushed down into a pool of sand is not my idea of a dream job but it’s what we do for the love of the craft.

When we were filming this, I had seen the other films from the franchise but never thought that the fourth installment would have such a huge following. I guess it made me have a certain appreciation for horror, it’s what I have to thank for having a career in film.

A lot of people think that I have something against horror because most of my career has been in drama or comedy, but I actually love horror. So, when I got the call to do a cameo in Wes Craven’s “New Nightmare” I was so thrilled to go back and work with the people who made the original and the franchise what it is today.

The new film, “Opening Night” is about a theatre company led by Victoria Lawson (played by Knight) who are prepping to perform a cursed play on the anniversary of a local massacre.

The project is slated to begin production in Texas late July and will be released in time for the Halloween season via producer Carlos Corral at Mindwarp Entertainment.

Almost everyone has a love for horror films,” Corral said. “It’s the one genre that keeps both fans and filmmakers coming back for more. I’m excited that we get to work with cult-icon Tuesday Knight for our next horror project here in Texas.

Dakota A. Thomas, whose previous short films include “Repent” and “Don’t Look Under the Bed“, is helming this project as writer/director.

It is impossible for me to express the emotions that I am feeling going into this new project,” Thomas said. “I am a lifelong horror fan. I’ve always been a big fan of Tuesday’s work. I remember buying my VHS copy of “The Dream Master” and falling in love with Tuesday’s character and that soulful voice.

I’ve followed her career since then and thanks to the internet we’ve become virtual friends. It’s a very surreal experience that I now all these years later have the honor of working with her. She is a remarkable person. It’s very humbling for me that she has even considered this role and I can’t wait to share this with all the fans who have been demanding for her to return to horror.

Note worthy: Dakota designed the cover for Tuesday Knight’s 2012 C.D. “FAITH”. The plan for the short film is to use it as a springboard to make a feature version.

I guess coming back into horror and doing a part in “Opening Night” has me a little excited to come to something familiar and to the genre I personally love,” Tuesday Knight continued. “The script is so well written and character driven and is not a “typical horror” film. You actually get to love the characters. Dakota is a brilliant writer and a very talented director. I know everyone will love this as much as I do.

  • Horror anthology Zombificador launches Indiegogo campaign; H. G. Lewis, Bill Moseley, Michael Berryman Attached

zombificador-hg-lewisMugworth Productions has launched an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to raise money for their latest production, a horror anthology titled Zombificador. Supporters can donate anywhere from $1 to $5,000. Perks include producer credits, limited edition Blu-rays, autographed posters and scripts, memorabilia and even an appearance the movie. All contributors are also invited to appear in a DVD featurette.

Upon successfully securing the funding, iconic filmmaker Herschell Gordon Lewis has agreed to return to the director’s chair for Zombificador. Lewis is affectionately known as the “Godfather of Gore” after making such classic splatter fests as Two Thousand Maniacs, Blood Feast, Color Me Blood Red and The Wizard of Gore. Now he’s ready to create what promises to be his bloodiest movie ever!

Lewis will direct from a script written by Marc Fernandez. Zombificador is an old-fashioned anthology movie with five interconnecting stories. From big, fat monsters with the ability of transforming people into savage creatures, to human-sized mutant bugs, along with talking puppets and silent psycho killers, Zombificador has it all. The movie will utilize traditional, practical special effects.

Genre favorites Bill Moseley (The Devil’s Rejects, Repo! The Genetic Opera), Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest) and Todd Farmer (My Bloody Valentine, Jason X) are attached to star in the film. Other recognizable faces are in talks to be involved.

With a great filmmaker, script and cast all in place, the only thing missing from Zombificador is funding. Production will begin as soon as financing is in place, so bid generously at igg.me/at/zombificador

Follow Zombificador on Twitter and Facebook for updates on the crowd funding campaign and the film.

  • Bigfoot-Themed Horror/Comedy STOMPING GROUND Launches Finishing Funds Kickstarter Campaign

Indie Film Features Theresa Tilly from Sam Raimi’s THE EVIL DEAD

Producers Brad Lavery and Mike De Trana, along with award-winning director Dan Riesser, have launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign seeking finishing funds for their independently-financed feature film Stomping Ground. The campaign began on March 11th and runs until April 9th. Nearly half of the $15,000 goal has already been raised. The film is seeking financing to aid with editing, color correction, sound design and visual FX.

Stomping Ground can best be described as a “scary relationship comedy about love and Bigfoot hunting.” It tells the story of Ben and Annie, a couple living in Chicago, on a weekend trip to Annie’s small North Carolina hometown. At the local bar they run into Paul, an old friend of Annie’s, and Ben learns something he never knew about his girlfriend: She believes in Bigfoot. In fact, she and her friends used to “hunt” for the creature when they were kids. Before Ben knows it, he’s off on an impromptu Squatchin’ trip deep in the Carolina backwoods. Amidst the Squatch calls, campfire stories and beers, Ben quickly realizes that Paul may have an ulterior motive in bringing Annie to the woods. And something else out here seems to be after her as well. Everyone but Ben thinks its Bigfoot. But it can’t be, can it? After all, Bigfoot isn’t real…

Stomping Ground is was shot in October 2012 in North Carolina, mostly in the Uwharrie National Forest, an area well known for its Bigfoot sightings. The film stars an amazing cast including John Bobek, Tarah DeSpain, Jeramy Blackford and Justin Giddings. It also features a special appearance by Theresa Tilly, who is best known for her role in Sam Raimi’s horror classic, The Evil Dead. Among the exciting prizes, Kickstarter pledgers have the opportunity to receive a signed piece of Evil Dead memorabilia from the actress. Read an update regarding Tilly’s involving in Stomping Ground here.

Director Dan Riesser is a filmmaker and television producer whose short films have played at festivals across the world. His 2010 short film Night of the Punks was an official selection at over 25 film festivals including Screamfest LA. His producing and directing work can be seen weekly on E! Entertainment’s The Soup with Joel McHale. Stomping Ground is his first feature film.

  • Horror Convention Documentary FANTASM Now In Production

Fantasm, a new documentary about horror conventions and the tight-knit community of fans who attend them, is currently in production under the direction of Kyle Kuchta.

Kyle Kuchta has a self-proclaimed obsession with horror films. Upon discovering the phenomenon of horror conventions, the young genre fanatic finally felt like a part of a community. He connected with like-minded individuals with whom he shares his love for the genre. Now he’s traveling to conventions all across America to find out why horror brings people together.

In addition to legions of devoted fans, the documentary will feature insight from iconic actors and filmmakers. Interview subjects who have already participated in Fantasm include Heather Langenkamp (A Nightmare on Elm Street, New Nightmare), Tom Atkins (Halloween III, Escape from New York), Joe Lynch (Chillerama, Wrong Turn 2), Amanda Wyss (A Nightmare on Elm Street) and more.

Fantasm began as aspiring filmmaker Kyle Kuchta’s thesis in pursuit of his film degree from Syracuse University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts. “I wanted to do a documentary on horror conventions,” he explains, “because I didn’t feel as if a lot of people knew about them or the loving community that they are a part of.”

The documentary was partially funded via Kickstarter. Further proving the enthusiastic support of the horror community, the project reached its goal in just eleven days. The 21-year-old Kuchta is currently working as a one-man film crew, serving as director, camera operator, interviewer and editor, among other duties.

Production will continue in March at the upcoming Monster-Mania in Cherry Hill, NJ and HorrorHound Weekend in Cincinnati, OH. • Fate of the Future

       Hello SquidFlicks Nation,

Many things have been changing here at SquidFlicks over the past year. We have developed new content and have succeeded in maintaining more consistent postings. However, the dawning of change had to come.

With the split of the SF homeland, Shelby going to Lexington and attending UK, and me attending WKCTC and staying in our hometown, things would become more difficult to make. We had originally planned to have SquidFlicks divide into two factions, SquidFlicks Red & SquidFlicks Blue. I was to be in charge of Squidflicks Red and Shelby with SF Blue, and we would do our own content on our own time. As i started to work on content for SF Red, I realized that things would get too complicated. SquidFlicks shouls cover all genres, and I have been focusing on mainly horror, sci-fi, etc. I felt that I should put SquidFlicks into the hands of it’s captain, Shelby. After 2, nearly 3 years at SquidFlicks i’m officially announcing my departure as a full time staff member from the site. It’s been an honor to be able to work and make content with some of my best friends, and this is such a hard thing to do.  I’m still hoping to work on some joint projects between my new site that’s in development, www.horrorhutproductions.com, and SF. We will still have Jack the Janitor on both sites, and i can already tell you the New Year’s Eve Bash will be a joint project. I want to thank everyone for ever watching and checking out the site. I hope everyone will check out the new site, and I will always have a plac ein my heart for SquidFlicks.

    All My Best,

    -Patrick M. Farmer

  • The Night Flier

With my can on Slim Jims in one hand  and my 12 pack of Vanilla Coke in the other, I too often find myself standing in a ridiculously long line at the local grocery store. Ahead of me are older women who have their carts overflowing with a variety items that they may or may not ever use. Every now and then i pick up an edition of The National Enquirer, i know they stories are usually bizarre and strange but they do intrigue me. Another magazine that does so is The Inside View. Stories about zombies, aliens, and even Vampires are regular topics and the latter just so happens to be the main topics that the reporters are after in the 1997 release of Stephen King’s “The Night Flier.”

The stage is set up with Richard Dees ( played by Miguel Ferrer) being the veteran reporter at a magazine that features stories of the unbelievable, strange and unreal. When a lead comes up on possible vampire that attacks his victims around airfields, he quickly passes on it, and after the newbie, Katherine Blair (Julie Entwisle), starts cracking more light on the case, Dees quickly decides to jump back on it and the chase begins.

I thought this adaptation of King’s story from his book, Nightmares and Dreamscapes, was a surprisingly impressive one. It was easily able to keep me intrigued and hardly got dull in any moments. The transitions from location to location are smooth and they don’t feel rushed or out of place. Directed by Mark Pavia, the film really grabs a hold of the audience and doesn’t loosen up a bit.The acting shocked me as being one of the biggest positive things out of the film. Miguel handles the lead of the film EXTREMELY well and he is a very underrated actor. Julie Entwisle took the supporting role and ran with it. They both shined and never let down in their performances.

Overall, it seemed like the feel of the film reminded much of an HBO episode of Tales from the Crypt. I liked the filmed and i thought Miguel did an outstanding job. Totally will recommend this King Adaptation to any lover of his work as they will not be disappointed.
