  • Worst TV Role Models

So what? The picture doesn't match the article…=P

So I know most of the SquidFlicks readers are grown and don’t necessarily need a role model, but I came across an interesting article and thought it was worth sharing. I feel that it is pretty accurate. The only choice I don’t really agree with is the Goku/Gohan one, but I can see where the concern could be valid. I say that #4 should be replaced with say, Charlie Sheen  from “Two and a Half Men”.

In summary the top five worst TV role models are:

    1. Snooki (duh) “Jersey Shore”
    2. Tony “Skins”
    3. Kim Kardashian “Keeping up with the Kardashians”
    4. Goku and Gohan “Dragon Ball Z”
    5. Tyra Banks “America’s Next Top Model”

How do you feel about the choices?

  • An Apology

Hey guys! I’m not real sure if anyone is visiting SquidFlicks anymore since output has gone to squat. I want to change that here and now. SquidFlicks was founded because I loved watching movies and sharing them with others. I went to college last fall and pretty much forgot about the site. Now, its summer again and I want to make up for lost time.

Now you may wonder what prompted me to log in and write this post today, and I will tell you why – Waylon Bacon, a short film director who we have featured before – submitted a new film for review via our film submission form. I got to thinking, and realized that SquidFlicks was made by independent film artists for independent film artists, and if I give up on them then it would be a shame.

SquidFlicks wants to review Independent Films. We want to help your project make it to the next level. What’s more, The IndepenDEX, another web project of mine, was made specifically for short film directors to list their projects.

Come on back, and gather around the old TV guys – It’s movie time!

  • Is 3D fake?

Roger Ebert has written an amazing article over the technology of 3D movies. According to Walter Murch, a renowned and Oscar winning editor, our brains can’t process true 3D images on the silver screen! Hit the link below for the full article.

I always thought that 3D wasn’t really that important, and if scientific evidence can prove that, then hopefully theaters will stop charging the extra $5 a ticket for plastic glasses and a headache 15 minutes into the movie! Ha!

How do you feel about 3D movies? Is it worth it even if it’s not ‘real’? Share your comments!

  • Cameron to work on Avatar sequels next

Fantastic news, Avatar fans! Director James Cameron has announced that his next productions will be the second and third installments of last year’s epic filmgasm. Production is set to begin in 2011 and the films should come out in 2014 and 2015 respectively. Try not to get too excited, because it’s going to take some time in the oven to finish these babies. I have no doubt that they will be just as amazing and impressive as the mold they are baked in!

Keep your schedules open! The world is NOT going to end with an unfinished Avatar trilogy! =)

  • New season of Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe

A Discovery Channel hit (and one of the most unique and entertaining shows in my opinion), Dirty Jobs, is coming back for an all-new season! The fun starts in just a couple of weeks – Tuesday, October 19th.

  • Grown Ups

We all are told to make the most of our youthful innocence. The only responsibilities we know as kids is to go to school and church on a regular basis, more or less. After that, you could do anything you wanted. Staying up all night, hanging with friends, going on adventures in the woods, playing video games, watching TV, and just plan old having fun. Most of us grew up with a small circle of close friends, and sometimes we lose touch with each other through the course of life.  (more…)

  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows trailer

The official trailer from Warner Bros. hit the internet recently, and the finale for the very popular Harry Potter series is looking just a tad past fantastic. Part 1 will debut in November of this year, and Part 2 will follow in July of 2011. I personally can’t wait. Also, this is one of the few movies based on books that I have actually read the books. =p

    Are you pumped?

  • Indiana Jones in a FINAL crusade to the Bermuda Triangle?

    Indy meets
    Cult sci-fi thrillers!

Well, I stumbled across some murmurs through the film industry today that’s pretty dang interesting. Rumor has it that a fifth and final installment of the immensely popular Indiana Jones movie franchise is in the works. The latest film was Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which came out in 2008. Prior to that, the series had been inactive since 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

The film is still in planning stages, and has not been fully confirmed, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it is. Both Harrison Ford and Shia LeBouf will return as the father and son adventure pair that was revealed in the fourth film. Perhaps the most exciting aspect of the film is that it is supposed to take place in and around the mysterious Bermuda Triangle. I think as long as George Lucas and crew cut down on the CGI-fest that was Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and focus on the real action and plot that made the first three films such huge successes, Indiana Jones can end in style.

Look forward to more news as this develops!

Its all over the place in various states of fractured factuality, but I think the sole concept is true – there is a fifth Indy coming, but I don’t think it’s next year. YMMV

  • Get Smart

Maxwell Smart is a dedicated member of CONTROL, yet another secret government spy organization similar to Britain’s MI6 (James Bond, for those of you who don’t know). Max has been trying to become a field agent for over 8 years, but he’s stuck as an analyst of radio and communications chatter from suspected terrorists throughout the world.
