  • Pigeon: Impossible

    PigeonImpossible-Poster

This is a digital 3D short that rivals Dreamworks and even Pixar in production quality! I discovered it yesterday and thought I should share it!

Anyway, Pigeon: Impossible features a rookie secret agent with a big problem – his top-secret nuclear briefcase gets hijacked by a hungry pigeon and almost launches a full scale nuclear war with Russia.

Director Lucas Martell says that he wanted to make the project as funny as possible, after he originally began to work on the short 5 years ago as an excuse to learn 3D animation. I’d say he’s come out of the experience extremely qualified! =)

Fantastic! Wish there were more shorts like it!

  • District 9

What if we had to help aliens in a humanitarian gesture, only to be rewarded with an even more trouble than it’s worth? In the case of Johannesburg, South Africa, this strange story becomes a reality. In the early 1980s, a mysterious and enormous spaceship hovers over the city, seemingly unable to move. A private military organization, Multi-National United, explores the ship and finds a race of unhealthy aliens. MNU offers assistance and a protected living facility known as District 9. Over time, the aliens and humans begin to conflict with one another, prompting MNU to evacuate District 9 inhabitants to District 10, some 200+ km outside of Johannesburg. What happens when newly-appointed program director Wikus van Eckert begins handing out evictions is nothing short of alien. (more…)

  • Tis the season for the Squid!

With 12 days left until Christmas eve, aka Squidmas, it’s time to start celebrating! Be prepared for a season full of reviews and more, courtesy of the Big Squid himself, Shelby!

I have quite a few reviews that will be released over the 12 day period! You all are well aware of my lack of reviews this year. I promise this week will catch me up! Are you ready?

  • Video Review: The Chemical King

Since it’s officially December, we decided to go ahead give all of you dedicated SquidFlicks fans out there an early Christmas gift. Now, even though it’s early, it’s still belated. We were suppose to debut these around this time last year. We were unable to post them because they are reviews of a film, that at the time, was in several film festivals. With no festivals in sight, we are proud to present, technically, the first filmed video review from us at SquidFlicks, as well as a companion video. Enjoy!

  • Group movie review?

Tomorrow presents a predicament for SquidFlicks – four staff members will be present for a screening of New Moon. I myself am not a fan, nor are any of the other members. I think as a treat we will do a four-way review and an average rating on the movie.

This review format may also be used in the future! =)

This is a guest review submitted by Ryan Hartley. Thanks Ryan!

“What do you do with the mad that you feel?
When you feel so mad you could bite.
When the whole wide world seems oh so wrong, and nothing you do seems very right.”
    – Fred Rogers

It’s okay for kids to have emotions.  They don’t know how to control them and there will be times when they get out of hand.  And while it’s a parent’s instinct to protect their child from harm, to protect them from their own emotions is a tragedy.

  • The NEW A-Team?

    new-a-team
Is this reality, or just a fantasy…? Please be a dream! AAAH!

    The new A-Team consists of:
    Bradley Cooper
    Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson
    Sharlto Copley
    Liam Neeson

Float or sink? Since it’s a remake, I’m wary of the results…these new age directors don’t do the 80s justice. Why can’t anyone create something remotely new? Please?

Hollywood: Quit messing with my 80s!

  • Latest improvements

Just a quick post to let you know about a (hopefully obvious) change. The NEW and refreshed SquidFlicks logo has replaced the OLD and historic logo at the top of the website.

Do you like? It’s yet another piece of the SquidFlicks 2.0 experience!sflogo

  • First Look: The Chemical King

Folks, this was pulled from the site a year ago because the film was in several competitions. I have re-released it for viewing pleasure. Enjoy! 🙂

Big news, everyone! I recently contacted my cousin, Ellen Jones, who has been working as the producer of a new Independent Film called The Chemical King. SquidFlicks has the honor of being the first non-production entity to view the movie, so this will be a world-wide exclusive that you cannot afford to miss!

The Chemical King is a movie about a boy who runs away from home and meets a beautiful girl. Unfortunately, he is about the biggest nerd in the world and has less than a zero percent chance of having any interaction with her.

How does he solve his problem? Well, he takes his genius and makes the world’s first WORKING love potion, all from household materials. However, as always, his feelings for her are starting to fade, and the potion shows no signs of wearing off…

The movie will be reviewed in a group format, much like the very popular Nightmare on Elm Street SquidFlicks Movie Marathon. Ellen sent me the DVD a couple of days ago, and I have yet to watch it. I will wait until the entire group watches so that we are all honest! 😉

    More updates on this soon!

  • Wall-E

    wall-e-poster

    Intro:

Imagine a planet filled with garbage and devoid of life – it is unfortunately the reality of the planet Earth in Wall-E. Left by the humans decades prior due to the their own destruction of the planet, it was up to Buy in Large’s robot garbage collectors to clean up the mess. The human race floats through space on an intergalatic space cruse while the planet repairs itself. Sounds like a good idea right? Unfortunately, most of the bots, with the exception of Wall-E, are now defunct and the world remains a gigantic wasteland.
