  • Whoa: TV Guide, The Company, Sold for $1!

I found this great little tidbit pertaining to a little publication we have all seen often in our lives, and a certain Seinfeld character’s father made his life collecting the little door stops: The Handy Dandy TV Guide is sold! See more below on the original article!

How much is TV Guide magazine worth in a morphing media business and molten credit markets? Try $1. That’s how much the private equity fund OpenGate Capital has agreed to pay Macrovision for the unprofitable magazine and all its liabilities. The cover price, by way of comparison, is $2.99.

  • What Superhero Movie Will Be The Next ‘Dark Knight’?

    The Dark Knight

Here’s a cool article I found on Digg:

Even if The Dark Knight hadn’t broken sales records β€” and proved a superhero movie could make you think β€” there would still be a spandex avalanche coming our way in the next few years. But now, it’s inevitable that every one of those films will be compared to Dark Knight. Will any of them measure up?

Personally, I am looking forward to the Green Lantern movie – I had not realized that it was going to be made! It’s one of my favorite comic book hero characters, and it could be a smash hit!

Tell us what you think after the jump!

  • Weekend Box Office: October 10-12

This weekend saw another sluggish lineup, with Beverly Hills Chihuahua edging out new release Quarantine and remains number one for yet another week. Everybody loves talking dogs!

    Weekend Top 5:

I have forgotten to update this each week, but I will make up for the lost time! Sorry y’all! =(

  • First Look: Lethal Weapon 5

Mel Gison and Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon
Mel Gibson and Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon

If you have not heard this already, it’s pretty big news! (To fans of the series at the very least!)

Word is that a new sequel (the fifth) to the fantastic action/crime-fighting series, Lethal Weapon, has been finished as a screenplay. The original star duo of Mel Gibson and Danny Glover is being sought out to reappear in the sequel, and if they accept, the film will be set for production. According to IMDB, the film is set to be released in 2010.

I love the Lethal Weapon series, and I really have high hopes for the film to be successful if Gibson and Glover are on board. If they aren’t in it, then it doesn’t even need to be made.

It’s a continuity issue more than ever these days in Hollywood – you revive a 20-year old series and the executive staff is too oblivious to realize that the actors that embodied the original series may not want to be in a new sequel years after their retirement! The real problem isΒ  if you can’t get the original actors to star in the sequel. If that’s the case, then you are better off not filming, because you are literally going to kill the entire franchise over one massive flop of a film. Batman and Robin, anyone?

There is a bunch of information out there, ask the Google machine!

Do you think that Lethal Weapon will be a go? I sure hope so! =)

This issue (of remakes and revivals in Hollywood) is also going to lead to a SquidFlicks editorial (someday). This is also the debut of the First Look category. New movie sequels and other films will be highlighted in this category!

    Intro:

Everything seems to be in place and perfect for a small colonial era township located in a large clearing and surrounded by woods, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Mysterious creatures lie beyond the border of the town, and no one is allowed to cross the border for fear that the creatures will exact their revenge. After a few appearances by the creatures, an accident befalls a young couple. Death will occur if medicine is not obtained, and an idea to obtain it is brought before the powerful town council of elders.

  • The Office returns for Season 5

Hit comedy series, The Office, starring Steve Carell, is going to be coming back to NBC on September 25 for another hilarious season, which is the shows fifth. Just last year, during the massive Hollywood Writer’s Strike, the forth season of The Office was cut from 25 episodes to just 14. However, the entire company really worked hard to make those 14 episodes really great, and finished the season out with some awesome (and wacky) cliffhangers for the next season to answer.

Hope you’re ready – I have had this date on my calendar for some time now! (You should know that since it is obvious that I love this show! πŸ™‚ )

I even found an awesome web site that has an interactive countdown until the premiere:
    http://www.theofficecountdown.erikkerr.com/

See previous episodes and short clips of The Office for free:

  • 2008 Emmy results

Well, I had made some predictions as to who and what would win in some selected categories of the 2008 Primetime Emmy Awards, but boy was I wrong! ;(

Here’s the actual results. Compare them to my prediction (but don’t make fun of me! πŸ˜‰ )

    The Winners:
BEST DRAMA SERIES – Mad Men
BEST LEAD ACTOR – Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad
BEST LEAD ACTRESS, DRAMA – Glenn Close, Damages
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR, DRAMA – Zeljko Ivanek, Damages
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS, DRAMA – Dianne Wiest, In Treatment
BEST COMEDY SERIES – 30 Rock
BEST LEAD ACTOR, COMEDY – Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock
BEST LEAD ACTRESS, COMEDY – Tina Fey, “30 Rock
BEST SUPPPORTING ACTOR, COMEDY – Jeremy Piven, Entourage
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS, COMEDY – Jean Smart, Samantha Who?
BEST LEAD ACTOR, MINISERIES OR TV MOVIE – Paul Giamatti, John Adams
BEST LEAD ACTRESS, MINISERIES OR TV MOVIE – Laura Linney, John Adams

The only gripe I had was the Best Comedy Series award, which I really believed The Office should have one – I have never really loved 30 Rock like I love The Office. Oh well, that’s Hollywood for ya. πŸ˜‰

  • The Emmys are coming! The Emmys are coming! (2008)

As you may or may not already know, the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards are tomorrow at 8pm ET/5pm PT on ABC.

There are a lot of great shows and actors nominated for the many categories, but here are a few selections that I think should be made. Feel free to agree/disagree in the comments! πŸ˜‰

The Emmys are another prestigious award that TV shows and series can earn – and often the winners are well deserving of the award. After watching the awards every year, I end up seeing shows that were winners just to see if I liked them.

Enough jabber, on to the predictions!

    Outstanding Comedy Series

Out of all five shows, I would have to pick The Office as the best comedy series for the Emmy. Just two years ago, the series picked up the same award (2006 Outstanding Comedy Series) and I think that it deserves an encore this year.

    Outstanding Drama Series

I am liking House, M.D. as the winner, but it faces stiff competition, especially from LOST, which would also be a good pick for this award.
