I recently found a new DVD release for an old TV show that still today is one of my favorite cartoons of all time. This show was Rocko’s Modern Life, and it featured Rocko, a kangaroo wallaby (thanks commenter below! đ ) and his best friend, Heffer, a cow, in crazy day to day life.
The show was canceled on Nickelodeon, and then it stopped being aired a couple of years later – the only place you could watch the show was on NickToons, a channel where the old Nick cartoons are rerun.
I am excited to see that the show is finally being released on DVD. There are two volumes sold as separate DVDs, with Volume 1 containing seasons 1 and 2, then Volume 2 containing seasons 3 and 4. The two DVDs span all four seasons of this great show.
I will have to add this to my always-expanding Amazon.com wishlist! (aka stuff I plan to buy some time…when I get the cash to. =( )

I know we have have a lot of things to improve upon, but the only real problem we had was the AC current ‘buzz’ in the audio of the first of the marathon. In the future, all electronic devices will be moved away from the camera and mic cables.
I can’t believe that it has been seven years since the worst terror attack in the United States occurred. As conflict between the nations of the world breaks out and tensions continue to strain, I sometimes wonder when the critical point will be crossed and spark a world-wide war that no one wants.
SquidFlicks would like to take the time to thank those who have served, lost lives, or are currently serving in the fight for a safer world, a world without terrorists and warring factions.

Entertainment Weekly recently published their list of the 25 funniest movies of the past 25 years. While the list was decent as a whole, I think that there are many more deserving titles that didn’t get mentioned.
Note that this is a list of the funniest movies in the past 25 years, so any movie made before 1983 does not apply! For Example: Caddyshack, The Jerk, etc.
I also took it upon myself to label some of the movies that I thought were good picks for the top 25 list.
Here’s the list:
1. âGhostbustersâ (1984) – Not #1, but in the top 25
2. âNational Lampoonâs Vacationâ (1983) – Great Choice
3. âBeverly Hills Copâ (1984)
4. âThis Is Spinal Tapâ (1984)
5. âOffice Spaceâ (1999)
6. âSouth Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncutâ (1999)
7. âThereâs Something About Maryâ (1998) – CLASSIC
8. âThe Big Lebowskiâ (1998)
9. âA Fish Called Wandaâ (1988)
10. âDazed and Confusedâ (1993)
11. âThe 40 Year Old Virginâ (2005) – No comments needed! đ
12. âWhen Harry Met SallyâŚâ (1989)
13. âWaiting for Guffmanâ (1996)
14. âWedding Crashersâ (2005)
15. âTrading Placesâ (1983)
16. âSuperbadâ (2007)
17. âTropic Thunderâ (2008) – I want to see this movie!
18. âNapoleon Dynamiteâ (2004) – Definitely a top 25 pick
19. âCluelessâ (1995)
20. âBest in Showâ (2000)
21. âClerksâ (1994)
22. âOld Schoolâ (2003) – “Dude, you just took a shot right to the jugular!”
23. âAustin Powers: International Man of Mysteryâ (1997) – Yeah Baby Yeah!
24. âThe Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squadâ (1988) – “Nice Beaver”
25. âWithnail and Iâ (1987)
What movies since 1983 do you think belong on the list of the top 25 funniest movies in the past 25 years? Do you think a movie needs a higher or lower ranking on the list?
PLEASE leave a comment and an explanation for your choice! đ

Today the motion picture industry lost another great artist. You may have never seen him or heard of his name, but you have heard his unmistakable voice in many commercials, promos, and movie trailers.
Mr. LaFontaine died Monday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center from complications in the treatment of an ongoing illness, said Vanessa Gilbert, his agent. (Sources say that he suffered a collapsed lung.) He was 68 years old.
He has made more than 5,000 trailers in his 33-year career while working for the top studios and television networks of the world.
He was featured in a Geico ad series that used hired celebrities to paraphrase actual customer experiences. That’s the commercial below.
This is a new feature at SquidFlicks, but also a long overdue one! Every weekend the top 5 grossing movies will be posted. There is also a new widget on the sidebar that features the top 5 movies during the week! Enjoy!
According to current buzz in the film industry, the fourth installment of the incredibly funny series, The Naked Gun, will not be screened in theaters, and will remain a Direct to DVD release only.
I find that this is a sad ending to a great comedic series featuring Leslie Nielson, star of other comedy franchises, notably the Airplane series. At least Paramount has green-lighted the project and has allowed work on a sequel to continue, even under the condition it will be published. Perhaps if fans make enough noise, a theater version *could* surface, but that’s unlikely.
The movie is a part of Paramountâs new direct-to-video initiative called Paramount Famous Prods. We’ll see how this turns out, since many of the planned projects are only tied in name and not in actors/staff.

One of my many (literally dozens) of favorite comedians, Bernie Mac, known for his FOX sit-com and many movies spanning several decades, passed away early Saturday morning, August 9, 2008. The death was, according to his publicist, related to symptoms from pneumonia that he had been hospitalized for previously this week. Mac had also been fighting an inflammatory lung disease that had relapsed from a 3 year dormancy. He was only 50 years old.
An asset to the entire world of comedic entertainment, Mac will be missed by all, and forgotten by none. Rest in Peace, Bernie! :'(
