BIg numbers this weekend! The movie season is finally upon us – lots of big name films and franchises are gearing up and letting the floodgates of movies swing open! Just don’t drown!

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa raked in just over $63 million on its opening weekend, more than all the other top 5 weekend films put together! I myself enjoyed Madagascar, and I would like to see the sequel sometime soon.

Another opening film was Role Models, a movie about a man who has to mentor two very troubled kids. One is a huge dork, the other is a pain in the @ss! It also had a great start at $19.3 million.

HSM3 hangs in the top 5 for another week, almost earning another $10 million to its account. Other films left from last week were Changeling and Zack and Miri.

    See you next week!

Shelby’s Note: Sorry for the delay this week on the Box Office update!

This weekend was pretty slow, with High School Musical 3, yet ANOTHER Disney film leads the Weekend Box Office. Will it EVER end? Yeah, you’re right; it won’t! =(

Also a nice figure to see is the comedy Zack and Miri Make a Porno, which seems to be a great movie but has been plagued with its public image all because of its name. Let that be a lesson to all film makers out there: Your movie’s name is VERY important, not only for viewers but for ADVERTISEMENTS!

Saw V still hangs on, and The Haunting of Molly Hartley scrapes by with 5th place. Funny to note that there were very few horror movies out on Halloween. Figure that…

    Well, until next week!

Finally, we start to see some high numbers back at the box office. As we progress into fall, more big name movies and franchises start to appear in theaters everywhere! This season of movie popularity usually lasts through winter into late March and early April, and then things slow down for the summer once again.

This weekend’s big name was High School Musical 3. Blech. My sister has been singing from it non-stop. Also new was the fifth installment of the Saw series, Saw V. It has been largely regarded as one of the weakest movies of the series in terms of plot, but I will save that review for Patrick who saw the movie last night.

Also still in the top five is Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Seriously? Come on! >=[
