  • Shelby’s on Fall Break now!

Hello, SquidFlickeans, Owner and Administrator of SquidFlicks here!

You all know me (I hope!) as Shelby, and Shelby is on Fall Break after 2:35PM CST! =D

I will be leaving for a week in Panama City Beach, and will be celebrating my birthday down there. I would also like to mention that it was during next week, on my birthday, October 7, that the idea for SquidFlicks was born. Patrick and I have a great party planned for the FIRST birthday of SquidFlicks! The first beta of the site came to life on October 17, and the domain and live launch of the site was October 31, Halloween!

More info on that bash soon!

Also, you can find out more about my vacation on my personal website – ShelbyPatrickJones.com

  • New DVD Release: Rocko’s Modern Life Volumes 1 and 2

I recently found a new DVD release for an old TV show that still today is one of my favorite cartoons of all time. This show was Rocko’s Modern Life, and it featured Rocko, a kangaroo wallaby (thanks commenter below! 🙂 ) and his best friend, Heffer, a cow, in crazy day to day life.

The show was canceled on Nickelodeon, and then it stopped being aired a couple of years later – the only place you could watch the show was on NickToons, a channel where the old Nick cartoons are rerun.

I am excited to see that the show is finally being released on DVD. There are two volumes sold as separate DVDs, with Volume 1 containing seasons 1 and 2, then Volume 2 containing seasons 3 and 4. The two DVDs span all four seasons of this great show.

I will have to add this to my always-expanding Amazon.com wishlist! (aka stuff I plan to buy some time…when I get the cash to. =( )

I can’t believe that it has been seven years since the worst terror attack in the United States occurred. As conflict between the nations of the world breaks out and tensions continue to strain, I sometimes wonder when the critical point will be crossed and spark a world-wide war that no one wants.

SquidFlicks would like to take the time to thank those who have served, lost lives, or are currently serving in the fight for a safer world, a world without terrorists and warring factions.

  • Naked Gun 4 planned to be a DVD release only?

    nakedgun_dvd_150x150

According to current buzz in the film industry, the fourth installment of the incredibly funny series, The Naked Gun, will not be screened in theaters, and will remain a Direct to DVD release only.

I find that this is a sad ending to a great comedic series featuring Leslie Nielson, star of other comedy franchises, notably the Airplane series. At least Paramount has green-lighted the project and has allowed work on a sequel to continue, even under the condition it will be published. Perhaps if fans make enough noise, a theater version *could* surface, but that’s unlikely.

The movie is a part of Paramount’s new direct-to-video initiative called Paramount Famous Prods. We’ll see how this turns out, since many of the planned projects are only tied in name and not in actors/staff.

  • Bernie Mac suffers an untimely fate

One of my many (literally dozens) of favorite comedians, Bernie Mac, known for his FOX sit-com and many movies spanning several decades, passed away early Saturday morning, August 9, 2008. The death was, according to his publicist, related to symptoms from pneumonia that he had been hospitalized for previously this week. Mac had also been fighting an inflammatory lung disease that had relapsed from a 3 year dormancy. He was only 50 years old.

An asset to the entire world of comedic entertainment, Mac will be missed by all, and forgotten by none. Rest in Peace, Bernie! :'(

  • A new look and upcoming changes for August 2008

    ALERT!
    ALERT!

SquidFlicks has a new look, which is much cleaner than previous designs. There will be some changes to the design, such as the addition of the SquidFlicks logo to the title, and some new features like most popular reviews and etcetera.

I am also working on closer integration with our reviews and amazon product links to give you the chance to read a review, decide you would like to see it yourself, click the product link in the review, and be sent to the corresponding page at amazon.com. Expect the links to be rolling out soon.

School has once again crept upon us here at SquidFlicks, but never fear – your reviews will continue to arrive!

    httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ud3BAGH_6gs

The first film in a mini-series to preview the latest Omega Squid Studios/Horrorhut Production film; Each episode will be short and will feature actors, stories, production, and staff related to the film.

The first of the series features me, the executive producer, introducing Urban Nights and our fund-raising campaign.
This was filmed on the fly with my Fujifilm Finepix s700 digital camera. It takes very good audio and video for a digital camera! It was edited the same day with Pinnacle VideoSpin.

  • Urban Nights: Announcement

    Urban Nights

Urban Nights is a new and upcoming Anthology film written by Patrick Farmer of Horrorhut Productions and produced by Shelby Jones of Omega Squid Studios. It features three smaller tales, which is the definition of an Anthology (many films in one).

The stories are of an Urban Legend-esque theme, and are well planned. Casting has been completed for the film, and all that is needed now is sufficient funding to start filming and production. IN the upcoming weeks, there will be additional posts highlighting the stories, actors, progress, and more related to the Urban Nights production.

  • Happy 4th of July!

    Independence Day

For all of our American readers out there, SquidFlicks would like to wish you a happy holiday weekend! We would also like to thank all of those who are serving our country in the armed forces and those who have given their lives for the freedoms that we enjoy today.

As for the horrific lack of posts in the past two months – we apologize! Work has been intense behind SquidFlicks as Patrick and I prepare new scripts and edit video for the many overdue releases that have accumulated over the past few weeks.

    See you around!
