  • How hard could it be? DTV in 2009

Hopefully you have heard the news; All broadcasts in the United States will be changing to digital over the old analog, and if you don’t have a modern TV, you could be left out in the dark.

Many people don’t have TVs with the automatic DTV connection, and there are some solutions to remedy that problem. One of the most advertised solutions is a DTV converter box, which you can add to an existing TV set. There is a government rebate to be had when you purchase a converter as well. Two other solutions are available – subscribing to cable or satellite TV to receive digital content, or purchasing a modern TV that has a DTV adapter built into it.

Since many people have and will use the converter box, someone made this hilarious video showing just how confused some of the less-technical population will be when trying to hook the converter up to the TV.

    Enjoy!

EDIT: The first video was removed for copyright reasons (Seriously?) on youtube,  and I was able to find a second version! See it before it’s gone!

  • Sites we Like: Tastekid.com

A recent find of mine was a relatively new but ever growing http://www.tastekid.com/ website.

It takes a bunch of information you provide, and uses it to match movies, music, and other media to your tastes. While it is still new and has some glitches, it was pretty good at recommending items for my tastes.

I thought you all would like to see how well the machine can read your mind! o_O

  • Terminator Salvation Movie Poster

This is an awesome graphic for the new Terminator movie. Terminator Salvation, that is premiering May 29, 2009. I am looking forward to the movie, even though Ah-nold won’t be playing a major role. =(

I guess really the image is more of a flash video than a ‘image’ but it’s awesome anyway!

  • SquidFlicks Video Reviews

A new video series is coming to SquidFlicks!

The new feature is SquidFlicks Video Reviews, which is a series in which one or more reviewers rate a film in a fashion much like that of the Movie Marathons, but for single titles. They will serve as an accompaniment to written reviews of the movie on the site. The videos will be less than 10 minutes in length and will review featured and independent films alike.

Our premiere episode has been filmed, and it’s part of the new Super SquidFlicks Thanksgiving we have planned!

There will be a post highlighting just what will be happening in the Super SquidFlicks Thanksgiving tomorrow! I think you will be quite pleased with the surprise we have for you!

  • Vote today!

Today is a very special and very important day for all US citizens and really, the entire world. Today we have to choose a new President, the most powerful leader in the world.

Voting is the foundation of democracy and is a basic US right. Please exercise your right to vote – it takes only a few minutes if you don’t wait till the last second!

  • The $180 Dollar Documentary

A strapped-for-cash director wants to create a documentary about the infamous Nigerian email scams and the dangers they face. He is successful in completing the production, winning a film festival, and receiving national attention! What was the budget? $180!

Sounds pretty sweet to me (and seems to be a lot like what Patrick and I are currently doing to finish projects…)

Find out how the movie was made for less than a car payment!

  • SquidFlicks Turns 1!

It has been a year today since SquidFlicks was opened to the public masses of the Internet, and it has been one crazy year for the site! As the owner of the site, I like to measure all sorts of information on the popularity and rankings of the site. One such ranking is the Alexa rank. On this accurate ranking system, SquidFlicks has grown from being the 12,111,156,345th most popular site on the Internet to the 559,247th and counting!
    See for yourself!

This amazing growth is thanks to our fans and visitors who are always suggesting new posts and reviews. This next year will see more great news and activities, here’s some of the plans I have for the site this year:

    • Weekly podcast
    • Video Movie Reviews
    • The SquidFlicks Real Reel show
    • Director Interviews
    • More Marathons
    • A video section
    • Merchandise!
    • And much. much more!

There is in fact a special introductory showing of SquidFlicks Real Reel tonight. The location of the show is on USTREAM.TV. Check out the channel page for details and viewing options.
Well, it seems that the server is down currently…check back soon to visit the channel!
The site is back up – see the channel!

I never thought that my SquidFlicks would grow so fast. The only thing to do now is keep up!

  • 20 Classic Films Recreated in LEGO

Here’s a new take on some older movies – using Lego bricks as the actors and set! Some of the movies I wouldn’t consider ‘classics’ by any means, but the comparison between the movie photo and the Lego recreation is pretty sweet.

Maybe movie sequels should start being done with Legos – they don’t have unions or fight for new contracts every year! =P

My favorite? Creepshow. Didn’t expect that to be in the 20 movies highlighted! =)

  • History of the Wilhelm Scream [VIDEO]

This is some seriously cool stuff – if you have ever heard a distinct, yet strange scream in a film, and have heard it in many times from other films, it’s the Wilhelm scream! Play the video, and you’ll soon know what I am talking about if you have ever heard the scream before!

This may get used in some of our productions!

  • Whoa: TV Guide, The Company, Sold for $1!

I found this great little tidbit pertaining to a little publication we have all seen often in our lives, and a certain Seinfeld character’s father made his life collecting the little door stops: The Handy Dandy TV Guide is sold! See more below on the original article!

How much is TV Guide magazine worth in a morphing media business and molten credit markets? Try $1. That’s how much the private equity fund OpenGate Capital has agreed to pay Macrovision for the unprofitable magazine and all its liabilities. The cover price, by way of comparison, is $2.99.
