  • The next great Movie Marathon

Look folks, it’s been a long time since we’ve had a good old movie marathon. We haven’t solicited a vote since the inaugural episode of the format, so I decided to bring the audience element of surprise back into the marathon.

I’ve come up with a few ideas for movie marathons. Pick the one you think would make for the best marathon footage, and once the votes are tallied, that will be the route we go! Be sure and spread the word to help out the cause.

If you have a better idea, put it in the comments below. I want this to be AMAZING, folks. Help me out here! =)

If you haven’t seen one of our famous movie marathons, check out the posts below:

  • The Hangover Part III Trailer

Now, I still need to watch part 2, but the first movie was amazing. This certainly looks to be a solid conclusion to this manic trilogy as the crew takes on Vegas one last time.

  • Harrison Ford in the New Anchorman!

    MORNING GLORY

Some interesting news on the Anchorman front! If you know me at all, you know that I am a HUGE fan of Anchorman, and I am ecstatic about the upcoming sequel.

In addition to the return of the amazing Channel 4 News team, there’s going to be another familiar and no doubt hilarious addition to the crew: Harrison Ford!

Mr. Ford has been pretty busy as of late; there are rumblings that he will also reappear in Star Wars Episode VII alongside Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill, but that’s an article for another day!

Anyway, as the Anchorman facebook page that I “like” said it best:

Young up and coming actor named Harrison Ford joins our movie. Don’t know much about him. Hope this kid is ready cause this is the big leagues. -Ron

Stay classy, SquidFlicks, Anchorman: The Legend Continues is due in theaters December 20, 2013.

  • JJ Abrams to direct Star Wars Episode VII

    jj-abrams

It’s dated news, but good news on the Star Wars front none-the-less. (I had this drafted up on January 25th!)

JJ Abrams will be in charge of the new Star Wars films, which in my opinion means the franchise is in good hands. Abrams has really had a hot directing hand this past few years, and based on the work he did with the Star Trek reboot, Star Wars fans have nothing to worry about.

How weird is it that Star Wars and Star Trek are both being directed by the same man? These are strange times indeed…but for Sci-Fi fans, the future could not be brighter!

  • Mad Max trilogy arriving on Blu-Ray!

    mad-max-trilogy-on-blu-ray

So, Patrick and I may be the only two suckers out there that own a Blu-Ray player, but it is a pretty darn sweet home movie experience for a “dead” medium in the age of digital streaming and on-demand content delivery.

Patrick sent me the announcement yesterday that the Mad Max trilogy will be arriving in glorious 1080p HD very soon. The first two films have been available on Blu-Ray for a while now, but this is the first time that Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome will be available in the format.

It will arrive this June in a limited edition collector’s tin and will retail for a pretty reasonable $49.99! (34.99 if you pre-order on Amazon!!!)

Master Blaster run Barter town? Shelby want on Blu-Ray!

  • Horror Convention Documentary FANTASM Now In Production

    fantasm-promo

Fantasm, a new documentary about horror conventions and the tight-knit community of fans who attend them, is currently in production under the direction of Kyle Kuchta.

Kyle Kuchta has a self-proclaimed obsession with horror films. Upon discovering the phenomenon of horror conventions, the young genre fanatic finally felt like a part of a community. He connected with like-minded individuals with whom he shares his love for the genre. Now he’s traveling to conventions all across America to find out why horror brings people together.

In addition to legions of devoted fans, the documentary will feature insight from iconic actors and filmmakers. Interview subjects who have already participated in Fantasm include Heather Langenkamp (A Nightmare on Elm Street, New Nightmare), Tom Atkins (Halloween III, Escape from New York), Joe Lynch (Chillerama, Wrong Turn 2), Amanda Wyss (A Nightmare on Elm Street) and more.

Fantasm began as aspiring filmmaker Kyle Kuchta’s thesis in pursuit of his film degree from Syracuse University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts. “I wanted to do a documentary on horror conventions,” he explains, “because I didn’t feel as if a lot of people knew about them or the loving community that they are a part of.”

The documentary was partially funded via Kickstarter. Further proving the enthusiastic support of the horror community, the project reached its goal in just eleven days. The 21-year-old Kuchta is currently working as a one-man film crew, serving as director, camera operator, interviewer and editor, among other duties.

Production will continue in March at the upcoming Monster-Mania in Cherry Hill, NJ and HorrorHound Weekend in Cincinnati, OH. Filming has previously taken place at such fan-favorite conventions as Monster-Mania (Hunt Valley, MD), Rock and Shock (Worcester, MA), Spooky Empire (Orlando, FL) and HorrorHound Weekend (Indianapolis, IL). The documentary is expected to be completed in May 2013.

Keep up to date with Fantasm on Facebook and Twitter.

  • Horrible Sci-Fi Speeches

We all know that science fiction is a movie genre full of inspirational and amazing stories like those from Star Wars and Star Trek, but there are also some pretty horrific moments like the ones shared by high-quality productions like Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus…

It’s a late share, but it’s worth your time anyway!

  • Hiccups with the Apocalypse marathon footage

    missing-camera

I am sorry that the marathon footage didn’t make it on the site in time to be relevant for the world’s impending doom on December 21, but we’ve been having some strange camera/footage importing errors between Patrick’s camera and our editing system. The entire marathon is completely edited and ready for export. The problem is that we cannot seem to get Final Cut to export the footage – instead of copying the footage from the camera to the editing system’s hard drive, the footage seems to have remained on the camera. Final Cut doesn’t like that, and will not export the footage until we figure out how to save a copy of the footage locally to the editing computer.

I’m putting all my effort into getting this fixed, because Pat and I had a great amount of content and discussion over the entire apocalypse movie genre, and we really want to share that discussion with all of our loyal fans and fellow movie buffs!

And before I forget to mention – Merry Christmas from your pals at SquidFlicks! Stay tuned for some holiday themed content.

  • SquidFlicks: Your Guide to the End of Times

    squidflicks-apocalypse-marathon-header

So, the world is totally going to end sometime on December 21, 2012, right? All of the world’s greatest minds say otherwise, but if we’re to believe a fancy Mayan rock, then the answer is yes!

Regardless of what happens, this is a prime opportunity to enjoy a sampling of some of the greatest apocalypse-themed movies and series.

    Here’s the list:

    • Terminator Series (1 through Salvation)
    • Mad Max/The Road Warrior Series
    • Escape from New York & LA
    • The Matrix
    • Waterworld
    • I am Legend
    • The Book of Eli
    • The Day After Tomorrow
    • 2012
    • Armageddon
    • Deep Impact (Morgan Freeman)

Here’s the catch – since Patrick and I are laying our lives on the line by staying out of the bunkers and recording this movie marathon, it would be swell if you viewers live through the disaster and tune in to the final verdicts tomorrow!
