  • The best Christmas movie?

    red-christmas-tree

So there are, it seems, hundreds of thousands of Christmas-themed movies. There are independent productions, feature films, made for TV movies,  and even claymation. Out of all of those thousands, which are the best? Well, it makes sense to break down the best by their respective categories, ranging from comedy to horror, classics to drama.

Part of the Christmas festivities in many families is to watch a certain Christmas movie every year. In my family, our Christmas movie of choice is Christmas Vacation. I have already viewed it three times this month, and I’ll see at least three more by the time the 24th gets here! (I love that movie, and I really could watch it all year!)

Also, please comment with you favorites or movies you’d like to see added to the list!

  • Food, Inc.

    Intro:

Do you know where your food comes from? Maybe it would be better if you didn’t, because there are some scary things happening out there in the American Food System. What was once a free market full of variety, safety, and choice is now a dangerous and misleading sham controlled by a few large corporations. Remember, You are what you eat, and when you find out what you’ve been eating, you may just want to stop.

  • Pigeon: Impossible

    PigeonImpossible-Poster

This is a digital 3D short that rivals Dreamworks and even Pixar in production quality! I discovered it yesterday and thought I should share it!

Anyway, Pigeon: Impossible features a rookie secret agent with a big problem – his top-secret nuclear briefcase gets hijacked by a hungry pigeon and almost launches a full scale nuclear war with Russia.

Director Lucas Martell says that he wanted to make the project as funny as possible, after he originally began to work on the short 5 years ago as an excuse to learn 3D animation. I’d say he’s come out of the experience extremely qualified! =)

Fantastic! Wish there were more shorts like it!

  • District 9

What if we had to help aliens in a humanitarian gesture, only to be rewarded with an even more trouble than it’s worth? In the case of Johannesburg, South Africa, this strange story becomes a reality. In the early 1980s, a mysterious and enormous spaceship hovers over the city, seemingly unable to move. A private military organization, Multi-National United, explores the ship and finds a race of unhealthy aliens. MNU offers assistance and a protected living facility known as District 9. Over time, the aliens and humans begin to conflict with one another, prompting MNU to evacuate District 9 inhabitants to District 10, some 200+ km outside of Johannesburg. What happens when newly-appointed program director Wikus van Eckert begins handing out evictions is nothing short of alien. (more…)

  • Weekend at Bernie’s

    Intro:

When you live the white collar life, any chance you get to move up a step on the ladder is a moment you HAVE to take. Key moments like taking a promotion, taking on another task, or ANY offerings from your boss, especially the CEO of the company. When you reach this almost Nirvana state of feeling, you have to remember to make right decisions. If said boss wants you to take up a new account, handle an existing account, or even invites you to his condo YOU TAKE IT. Like the guys in the 1989 release of Ted Kotcheff’s “Weekend at Bernie’s.” (more…)

  • Video Review: The Chemical King

Since it’s officially December, we decided to go ahead give all of you dedicated SquidFlicks fans out there an early Christmas gift. Now, even though it’s early, it’s still belated. We were suppose to debut these around this time last year. We were unable to post them because they are reviews of a film, that at the time, was in several film festivals. With no festivals in sight, we are proud to present, technically, the first filmed video review from us at SquidFlicks, as well as a companion video. Enjoy!

  • Group movie review?

Tomorrow presents a predicament for SquidFlicks – four staff members will be present for a screening of New Moon. I myself am not a fan, nor are any of the other members. I think as a treat we will do a four-way review and an average rating on the movie.

This review format may also be used in the future! =)

  • The Fourth Kind

    The_Fourth_Kind

    Intro:

Millions have reported seeing strange and unusual things in the sky. Most can be debunked as being a satellite or a weather balloon; However, there are those cases where things cannot be explained with ease. Then what comes to mind is UFO. We all know, of course, that having contact with an UFO is classfied as a Close Encounter of the Third Kind. Now there is a step beyond that of the Third Kind, one which no one ever wants to face. that being the title of the film being reviewed today, Olatunde Osunsanmi’s “The Fourth Kind.”
