Intro:
If you know me at all by now, you KNOW i’m a sucker for anthology films. Through the good and the bad, the thick and the thin, i’m always up for a compilation of stories. I’ve seen TONS but there are still many i have yet to see. However one of my favorites, “The Vault of Horror” has seemed to be remade, or at least in my eyes, in the 2006 release of “Trapped Ashes.”
Technically, this is the FIRST post of 2009 on SQUIDFLICKS! 😀
Well, it’s been a great year for SquidFlicks, and that’s plenty to celebrate about, but don’t use all your energy – this year is going to be even BETTER! The amount of new things to come is amazing!

I am also considering a podcast to end each week, but that is still in developmental stages. There are some items on this list that have not been mentioned on the site before. There is a reason for this – we wanted them to be a surprise, and they will be further explained in the near future. In an exciting finale to the previous three ‘mysterious stranger’ posts, we proudly present to you an original digital short film, The Iced Avenger! This is the premiere installment of SquidFlicks Digital Shorts/Creature Features, a show where short, original, and entertaining films are produced and published periodically.
The Iced Avenger is based on a killer snowman who wreaks havoc upon the SquidFlicks HQ. Will staff members Shelby Jones and Patrick Farmer be able to fight it off, or will they become its next victims? You’ll have to watch to find out!

This was a great opportunity to learn more about film creation from a fellow independent director, and I am glad that they accepted our offer to be interviewed for the premiere episode of Reel Talk!

If you’re a fan of late-night talk shows, you’ve heard of Jay Leno. You’ve also probably heard about Leno “retiring” from NBC in Spring of 2009.
Not anymore.
On December 9, Leno and numerous NBC executives held a press conference to announce a venture into prime time television for the comedian. According to a Reuters.com story, the new one-hour show will air at 10 EST/9 CST, and will be the first program of its kind to run 6 days a week in US prime time. For all you “Tonight Show” faithful out there, the new show will still feature an opening monologue, and familiar comedy bits like “Headlines” and “Jaywalking”.
The only downfall of this move is that shows such as “Law and Order” will be pushed back an hour, causing other programs to be canceled.
Which isn’t a huge loss, really… I mean, “Lipstick Jungle”? Yeah, I don’t think I’ll miss that one.

Intro:
The film I have reviewed is one of my favorites from my youth. This is a super fun movie for fans of 80’s camp and cheese, and can even be considered a cult favorite by some.
Sure, this movie maybe doesn’t stand up as well as some movies from the 80’s, and the effects are a little dated, but I still feel that this movie delivers on many levels and is a must see for all horror fans and fans of the 80’s cheese flick.

Take a seat and let SquidFlicks guide you to the top five movies this past week! In first place we have Jim Carrey’s latest comedy, Yes Man, grossing over $18.3 million. In second was Will Smith’s latest drama, Seven Pounds. It earned over $14.9 million this past weekend.
The Tale of Despereaux, based on the series of books by the very same name, placed third with $10.1 million in revenue.
Filling out the rest of the top five were The Day the Earth Stood Still, placing fourth with $9.9 million, barely below the $10 million mark, and long time contender Four Christmases, which placed fifth and took home $7.7 million.

Strict Saudi Arabian religious policing led to the banishment of movie theaters for well over 30 years. Now things may change, says the head of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice. There are still restrictions, though. The movies are screened and approved by the commission, and places where movies will be screened are thoroughly inspected to make sure that they adhere to strict religious code.
Most Saudis watch videos and TV through DVDs and Satellite in their own homes, and travel to nearby countries to watch a film in a theater.
I can’t believe that the Saudi Arabian government restricts so much regarding to entertainment in their society. I can only hope that things will improve over time as government officials see that entertainment has more benefits than it does negatives.

Really bad news from SquidFlicks HQ. After a few nights of increased security, the creature that plagued the offices last week seemed to have given up on its seemingly sinister goal.
Unfortunately recent events have proven that this is not the case. A yet-to-be identified security guard was found maimed in a break room located near the ventilation system servicing area. Footage from the camera shows that the creature was cold-blooded and methodical with the kill.
I fear for our safety; this thing may already be inside the building. I will have the vents checked immediately for any intrusions. Stay tuned.
