Finally, we start to see some high numbers back at the box office. As we progress into fall, more big name movies and franchises start to appear in theaters everywhere! This season of movie popularity usually lasts through winter into late March and early April, and then things slow down for the summer once again.
This weekend’s big name was High School Musical 3. Blech. My sister has been singing from it non-stop. Also new was the fifth installment of the Saw series, Saw V. It has been largely regarded as one of the weakest movies of the series in terms of plot, but I will save that review for Patrick who saw the movie last night.
Also still in the top five is Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Seriously? Come on! >=[
This is going to be a phenomenal addition to the already awesome Harry Potter series. The Half-Blood Prince is the sixth of the seven books in the Harry Potter series, and begins to set the stage for the final showdown between Harry and Lord Voldemort, good and evil.
Expect more posts as the release date nears.
Currently the movie is set to release on July 17, 2009
This is some seriously cool stuff – if you have ever heard a distinct, yet strange scream in a film, and have heard it in many times from other films, it’s the Wilhelm scream! Play the video, and you’ll soon know what I am talking about if you have ever heard the scream before!
This may get used in some of our productions!
A Brief History of the Wilhelm Scream, as told by HollywoodLostAndFound.net creator Steve Lee – along with Directors Joe Dante and Tobe Hooper.
Well, some new names have been thrown in the mix this weekend, with only Eagle Eye and Beverly Hills Chihuahua left from last weekend. Numbers were up from last week, and premiere Max Payne led the weekend box office with 18 million!
This is a greatly interesting article with a lot of great trivia pertaining to the cast and events during the James Bond film series’ life, from past to present. Note: This is a British article, hence the use of the word ‘faggot’ as a cigarette. Enjoy!
From advertising pork faggots to a ‘Swingometer’ star’s dreams of glory… Here the author of a new book about how James Bond conquered the cinema screen reveals a host of surprising facts about the franchise.
I found this great little tidbit pertaining to a little publication we have all seen often in our lives, and a certain Seinfeld character’s father made his life collecting the little door stops: The Handy Dandy TV Guide is sold! See more below on the original article!
How much is TV Guide magazine worth in a morphing media business and molten credit markets? Try $1. That’s how much the private equity fund OpenGate Capital has agreed to pay Macrovision for the unprofitable magazine and all its liabilities. The cover price, by way of comparison, is $2.99.
Even if The Dark Knight hadn’t broken sales records — and proved a superhero movie could make you think — there would still be a spandex avalanche coming our way in the next few years. But now, it’s inevitable that every one of those films will be compared to Dark Knight. Will any of them measure up?
Personally, I am looking forward to the Green Lantern movie – I had not realized that it was going to be made! It’s one of my favorite comic book hero characters, and it could be a smash hit!
This weekend saw another sluggish lineup, with Beverly Hills Chihuahua edging out new release Quarantine and remains number one for yet another week. Everybody loves talking dogs!
If you have not heard this already, it’s pretty big news! (To fans of the series at the very least!)
Word is that a new sequel (the fifth) to the fantastic action/crime-fighting series, Lethal Weapon, has been finished as a screenplay. The original star duo of Mel Gibson and Danny Glover is being sought out to reappear in the sequel, and if they accept, the film will be set for production. According to IMDB, the film is set to be released in 2010.
I love the Lethal Weapon series, and I really have high hopes for the film to be successful if Gibson and Glover are on board. If they aren’t in it, then it doesn’t even need to be made.
It’s a continuity issue more than ever these days in Hollywood – you revive a 20-year old series and the executive staff is too oblivious to realize that the actors that embodied the original series may not want to be in a new sequel years after their retirement! The real problem is if you can’t get the original actors to star in the sequel. If that’s the case, then you are better off not filming, because you are literally going to kill the entire franchise over one massive flop of a film. Batman and Robin, anyone?
There is a bunch of information out there, ask the Google machine!
Do you think that Lethal Weapon will be a go? I sure hope so! =)
This issue (of remakes and revivals in Hollywood) is also going to lead to a SquidFlicks editorial (someday). This is also the debut of the First Look category. New movie sequels and other films will be highlighted in this category!
While growing up some of your best memories can come from hanging out with your friends over the summers. Wither it be going on dangerous, exciting adventures in your backyard, to playing Marco Polo at the local city swimming pool. You can grow and break friendships over the course of one summer, some of your childhood friends will stay with you throughout high school and beyond, while others you will part ways with and who will become only faces you see, but the times you spend together will stay with you, like the boys in the 1986 release of Rob Reiner’s “Stand By Me.”
