  • Shelby’s on Fall Break now!

Hello, SquidFlickeans, Owner and Administrator of SquidFlicks here!

You all know me (I hope!) as Shelby, and Shelby is on Fall Break after 2:35PM CST! =D

I will be leaving for a week in Panama City Beach, and will be celebrating my birthday down there. I would also like to mention that it was during next week, on my birthday, October 7, that the idea for SquidFlicks was born. Patrick and I have a great party planned for the FIRST birthday of SquidFlicks! The first beta of the site came to life on October 17, and the domain and live launch of the site was October 31, Halloween!

More info on that bash soon!

Also, you can find out more about my vacation on my personal website – ShelbyPatrickJones.com

  • The Village

    village_ver2

    Intro:

Everything seems to be in place and perfect for a small colonial era township located in a large clearing and surrounded by woods, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Mysterious creatures lie beyond the border of the town, and no one is allowed to cross the border for fear that the creatures will exact their revenge. After a few appearances by the creatures, an accident befalls a young couple. Death will occur if medicine is not obtained, and an idea to obtain it is brought before the powerful town council of elders.

  • The Office returns for Season 5

Hit comedy series, The Office, starring Steve Carell, is going to be coming back to NBC on September 25 for another hilarious season, which is the shows fifth. Just last year, during the massive Hollywood Writer’s Strike, the forth season of The Office was cut from 25 episodes to just 14. However, the entire company really worked hard to make those 14 episodes really great, and finished the season out with some awesome (and wacky) cliffhangers for the next season to answer.

Hope you’re ready – I have had this date on my calendar for some time now! (You should know that since it is obvious that I love this show! ๐Ÿ™‚ )

I even found an awesome web site that has an interactive countdown until the premiere:
    http://www.theofficecountdown.erikkerr.com/

See previous episodes and short clips of The Office for free:

  • 2008 Emmy results

Well, I had made some predictions as to who and what would win in some selected categories of the 2008 Primetime Emmy Awards, but boy was I wrong! ;(

Here’s the actual results. Compare them to my prediction (but don’t make fun of me! ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

    The Winners:
BEST DRAMA SERIES – Mad Men
BEST LEAD ACTOR – Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad
BEST LEAD ACTRESS, DRAMA – Glenn Close, Damages
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR, DRAMA – Zeljko Ivanek, Damages
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS, DRAMA – Dianne Wiest, In Treatment
BEST COMEDY SERIES – 30 Rock
BEST LEAD ACTOR, COMEDY – Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock
BEST LEAD ACTRESS, COMEDY – Tina Fey, “30 Rock
BEST SUPPPORTING ACTOR, COMEDY – Jeremy Piven, Entourage
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS, COMEDY – Jean Smart, Samantha Who?
BEST LEAD ACTOR, MINISERIES OR TV MOVIE – Paul Giamatti, John Adams
BEST LEAD ACTRESS, MINISERIES OR TV MOVIE – Laura Linney, John Adams
BEST VARIETY, MUSIC OR COMEDY SERIES – The Daily Show With Jon Stewart
BEST REALITY PROGRAM – Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List
BEST REALITY COMPETITION PROGRAM – The Amazing Race
BEST REALITY COMPETITION HOST – Jeff Probst, Survivor

The only gripe I had was the Best Comedy Series award, which I really believed The Office should have one – I have never really loved 30 Rock like I love The Office. Oh well, that’s Hollywood for ya. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Are you satisfied with the results? Please comment below and share with SquidFlicks!

  • The Emmys are coming! The Emmys are coming! (2008)

As you may or may not already know, the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards are tomorrow at 8pm ET/5pm PT on ABC.

There are a lot of great shows and actors nominated for the many categories, but here are a few selections that I think should be made. Feel free to agree/disagree in the comments! ๐Ÿ˜‰

The Emmys are another prestigious award that TV shows and series can earn – and often the winners are well deserving of the award. After watching the awards every year, I end up seeing shows that were winners just to see if I liked them.

Enough jabber, on to the predictions!

    Outstanding Comedy Series

Out of all five shows, I would have to pick The Office as the best comedy series for the Emmy. Just two years ago, the series picked up the same award (2006 Outstanding Comedy Series) and I think that it deserves an encore this year.

    Outstanding Drama Series

I am liking House, M.D. as the winner, but it faces stiff competition, especially from LOST, which would also be a good pick for this award.

  • New DVD Release: Rocko’s Modern Life Volumes 1 and 2

I recently found a new DVD release for an old TV show that still today is one of my favorite cartoons of all time. This show was Rocko’s Modern Life, and it featured Rocko, a kangaroo wallaby (thanks commenter below! ๐Ÿ™‚ ) and his best friend, Heffer, a cow, in crazy day to day life.

The show was canceled on Nickelodeon, and then it stopped being aired a couple of years later – the only place you could watch the show was on NickToons, a channel where the old Nick cartoons are rerun.

I am excited to see that the show is finally being released on DVD. There are two volumes sold as separate DVDs, with Volume 1 containing seasons 1 and 2, then Volume 2 containing seasons 3 and 4. The two DVDs span all four seasons of this great show.

I will have to add this to my always-expanding Amazon.com wishlist! (aka stuff I plan to buy some time…when I get the cash to. =( )

  • SquidFlicks Movie Marathon 1 – Nightmare on Elm Street Series

After weeks of delay and problems, the very first episode of the SquidFlicks Movie Marathon series is complete and open for comments and viewing.

    Press Release:

A new online video series that features popular movie series being reviewed in a group setting has debuted from SquidFlicks, a small movie review web site. The video series has long been in the works and has finally been published after weeks of promotion and work.

The first episode features the popular horror series A Nightmare on Elm Street, and features commentary from the group of five reviewers on all eight of the seriesโ€™ titles.

    ###

See the video, and leave comments if you’d like!

I know we have have a lot of things to improve upon, but the only real problem we had was the AC current ‘buzz’ in the audio of the first of the marathon. In the future, all electronic devices will be moved away from the camera and mic cables.

    Enjoy!

  • Feast

    Intro:

There are some people out that you just canโ€™t stand. Like in school, you are always put in a group with someone who you cannot tolerate. In the end, you have to learn to work with people you hate, wither it be for a grade, a project, or to survive, like the people in the 2005 release of John Gulagerโ€™s โ€œFeast.โ€ (more…)

I can’t believe that it has been seven years since the worst terror attack in the United States occurred. As conflict between the nations of the world breaks out and tensions continue to strain, I sometimes wonder when the critical point will be crossed and spark a world-wide war that no one wants.

SquidFlicks would like to take the time to thank those who have served, lost lives, or are currently serving in the fight for a safer world, a world without terrorists and warring factions.

    WE WILL NOT TIRE,
    WE WILL NOT FALTER,
    WE WILL NOT FAIL
