  • Zombies? Not just yet! (April Update)

Well, I think that it is time to give everyone an update on SquidFlicks and what has been going on the past few weeks here. The short answer: not much; the real answer: a lot (I am working on more stuff behind the scenes again!)

Once again I am furiously working to integrate Amazon into SquidFlicks – meaning that in every review, there will be a link to purchase the movie on Amazon.com!

I am also working on a set posting schedule for reviews, so everyone knows what and when new posts are coming. It will be aptly named the calendar, and will list the upcoming posts in order.

As for SquidFlicks and the new look – it’s also on its way, and I think that everyone will like it!

Patrick and I have been pretty bogged down, school is starting in that final rush to finish curriculum and take tests, but by this time next month news and content should be coming more frequent. Perhaps the premiere episode of Horrorhut will follow – who knows? 😉

    I’ll keep you posted!

  • The Ruins

    Intro:

Countries have to have taken a beating from a decline of tourism over the past five or six years. With all these films depicting awful incidents happening in popular vacation spots, its no wonder this has happened. Films like “Ritual”, “Hostel”, and “Turistas” are all films which will make you want to stay a little closer to home come next vacation time. Mexico is the latest location to be attacked by this type of film, in the 2008 release of Carter Smith’s “The Ruins.”

  • Horton Hears a Who!

    Horton Hears a Who!

    Intro

What do you get when you add an elephant, a tiny world comprised of a speck of dust, a giant fictitious jungle, and some zany animals? Well, one might say that you had entered the wonderful and strange mind of Dr. Seuss!

Horton the elephant is just another peaceful (and slightly strange) resident of a bizzare jungle, and Horton is quickly ousted for his odd behavior involving a speck that “is an entire world.”

  • Speed Racer – Preview

    Speed Racer

    An Official SquidFlicks Preview

    Summary

Excerpt from the official Speed Racer movie site:

[From writer/directors Larry and Andy Wachowski, the creators of the groundbreaking “The Matrix” trilogy, and producer Joel Silver comes the live-action, high-octane family adventure “Speed Racer.”

Hurtling down the track, careening around, over and through the competition, Speed Racer (Emile Hirsch) is a natural behind the wheel. Born to race cars, Speed is aggressive, instinctive and, most of all, fearless. His only real competition is the memory of the brother he idolized—the legendary Rex Racer—whose death in a race has left behind a legacy that Speed is driven to fulfill.

  • Comedy returns after long break

    theoffice.jpg

As you all know, the Hollywood writers’ strike affected many shows that were both on the air and yet to come. Probably the hardest hit was NBC, but a prime example of a hit show from ABC that had its future season cut short was Lost; only 8 of the original 16 planned episodes were completed for this season.

Other shows, like The Office, had their new season premieres delayed by several weeks. This is a very positive post, however, because a smattering of NBC comedies are returning on April 10! I personally can’t wait because my favorite TV show, which is The Office, will be returning with a brand new season!

I hope that you are excited too! =)

  • Copyright Infringement – SquidFlicks’ April Fool’s Trick 2008

    aprilfools2008.jpg

Whoa, what happened to SquidFlicks today? Well, if you visited anywhere from 12:00 AM to about 5:00 PM, you would have seen the image above instead of the website! (Minus the red text, lol) I thought that that little maintenance-turned-site-shut-down message was a pretty good little joke to let me celebrate April Fool’s Day with a wider audience!

Did you fall for it? I know Patrick did; he sent me a frantic message as soon as he saw the message, and I just about fell out with laughter.

    His comments on my joke:

“I hate you man, that’s not funny!”

    Ha!

I hope everyone else had a fun day. Be sure and stay tuned for the latest updates on the movie marathon and a remake of the entire SquidFlicks site! There will be some more reviews on the way in between the news posts, so be ready for that as well!

  • Somebody’s Big Day!

    Birthday Cake

Well, lets all wish Patrick Farmer, co-founder and fellow author of SquidFlicks a happy 17th birthday today! Now he needs to get on the ball and finish that driver’s license up! Just kidding Pat – I feel your pain too about that whole rigmarole!

ALSO, THE POLL ENDS TONIGHT AT 11:59:59 CST! PATRICK, THIS POLL DATE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR BIRTHDAY, SO YOU CAN GET THOSE CRAZY IDEAS OUT OF YOUR HEAD RIGHT NOW! =)

I drew that picture with my AWESOME new Wacom Intuos 3 Graphics Tablet! In commemoration of my new ability to hand-create graphics directly into the computer, I have launched a deviantART profile to showcase my/OSS works; check it out and let me know what you think! – osquid.deviantart.com

    See you around!

  • Transformers

    Transformers

This is a review by a Guest Author – Ricky Holdman

    Intro

When you hear the word “Transformers” you probably think about the children’s toy, or fanboys with their bellies hanging over their belts, glasses, and a Transformers shirt which is about 2 sizes too small. Well, both of these are correct, but this 2007 movie Directed by Michael Bay and Produced by Steven Spielberg, holds a whole lot more meaning than those two things.
