  • Hancock

    Intro:

Superheroes are the best tool for fighting crime in any major urban area. Batman protects Gotham City, Superman, Metropolis, and Spiderman, Manhattan. For the most part, the heroes listed are on decent terms with the cities and people they serve. Hancock, on the other hand, is a superhero that Los Angeles would be glad to be rid of.  He consistently demolishes various parts of the city whenever crime is afoot, can be found sleeping on the streets, and drinks heavily. In addition, he’s also a huge jerk. It’s no wonder everyone hates him.

Perhaps if he cleaned up his act, the public would start to appreciate him more. It takes a lot of persuasion from an adoring fan and PR man Ray Embrey to help improve his image. Just as things start to turn for the better, an unexpected discovery opens a huge weakness, an Achilles heel, to the mighty Hancock. Will he survive? (more…)

  • Salvation is Coming

An awesome new trailer for Terminator Salvation, the fourth installment of the super awesome  (if I do say so myself) series. It’s coming out in theaters May 21, 2009.

  • Weekend Box Office: Nov. 14-16

Big big weekend here folks – the much anticipated release of the latest 007 movie, Quantum of Solace led to big box office bank rolls! The movie had the highest number of tickets sold in the entire history of the franchise (which spans 4 decades). I hope to see this one soon myself!

Another high-roller for this past weekend was Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, which debuted last weekend. It finished with a little over half of last week’s total at $36.1 million.

Role Models finished over $10 million for another week, and HSM3 is STILL in the top 5! Madness!

Kudos to the top 5 for this weekend – and let’s see what happens next weekend!

  • First Look: Lethal Weapon 5

Mel Gison and Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon
Mel Gibson and Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon

If you have not heard this already, it’s pretty big news! (To fans of the series at the very least!)

Word is that a new sequel (the fifth) to the fantastic action/crime-fighting series, Lethal Weapon, has been finished as a screenplay. The original star duo of Mel Gibson and Danny Glover is being sought out to reappear in the sequel, and if they accept, the film will be set for production. According to IMDB, the film is set to be released in 2010.

I love the Lethal Weapon series, and I really have high hopes for the film to be successful if Gibson and Glover are on board. If they aren’t in it, then it doesn’t even need to be made.

It’s a continuity issue more than ever these days in Hollywood – you revive a 20-year old series and the executive staff is too oblivious to realize that the actors that embodied the original series may not want to be in a new sequel years after their retirement! The real problem is  if you can’t get the original actors to star in the sequel. If that’s the case, then you are better off not filming, because you are literally going to kill the entire franchise over one massive flop of a film. Batman and Robin, anyone?

There is a bunch of information out there, ask the Google machine!

Do you think that Lethal Weapon will be a go? I sure hope so! =)

This issue (of remakes and revivals in Hollywood) is also going to lead to a SquidFlicks editorial (someday). This is also the debut of the First Look category. New movie sequels and other films will be highlighted in this category!
